What often separates the truly happy and successful from those who are unfulfilled in life is the story they tell themselves. We are all guilty of telling ourselves little stories: how we won't get what we want, how our past determines our future, how we are unlucky in life. How we hold these stories ultimately determines the course of our life.
Everyone's story tends to have a conflict. Everyone has had some cross to bear, some tragedy or some obstacle in their way. This is as true in classic storytelling and Hollywood movies as it is in life. We all like a good story, because we all live in a world rich in stories.
Whereas the happy and successful use these conflicts as inspiration or as part of a learning curve, those who are less happy tend to let these conflicts define them as people. There are many conflicts and setbacks in life: not getting the job you want, a relationship breaking up, the loss of a loved one or financial meltdown. No doubt these would be troubling to most of us. However, a successful person might conclude "I needed that setback to learn something valuable about myself and about life." A person who is not living the life they want would assuredly think along the lines of "Life's Not Fair" or "I'm doomed".
The story you have concocted is the one which will determine your life. There are many ways you can re-program yourself for success, but ultimately the life you lead now is part of your story.
So, let's consider some stories...
The rags to riches story is a popular one and it's not just confined to literature and whimsical movies. We can all identify with the plucky underdog who triumphs against the odds. That's why a movie like Rocky captivates us. It shows what is possible with hard work, a positive outlook and nbeing in charge of your own life.
It happens in the movies and it happens in life. Self-made Millionaires like Richard Branson had a bigger idea for their lives than just settling for mediocrity. Oprah Winfrey, who is adored across the world, had to deal with a tragic beginning to her story: abuse, poverty and low self-esteem. She had a grand vision and turned it all around.
Any story can change...
Your life might not be the story you want just now, so it might be worth changing this story. Be the WRITER of your life. Chris Cade has come up with a unique new program called Inscribe Your Life, which teaches you how to literally write the story of your life to achieve the life of your dreams. If you are tired of living in mediocrity and just want that happy ending you thought was only possible in the movies, check out The Inscribed Life.
